xactly one month earlier from today, on 26th of October, Microsoft launched its much anticipated, modern, innovative & feature rich operating system i.e. Windows 8. And, with the launch, Microsoft's head of Windows, Steven Sinofsky, describes Windows 8 as “a major milestone in the evolution and revolution of computing” & saying it the best Windows release ever.
He also called Friday 26 October 2012 as the first day of "the world of Windows 8". And, Windows 8 also gaining a huge popularity among the consumers and proving worth of the words said by Steven Sinofsky. So let's explore the things/facts that made Windows 8 an incredible OS.

Here are few but amazing Windows 8 facts you might not be aware of:
  • Microsoft performed 1.2 Billion hours of testing before releasing the Windows 8.
  • More than 1,000 new computing devices including ultrabooks & tablets have been certified by Microsoft for Windows 8, with some costing under $300.
  • More than 1,500 new apps were added to the Windows 8 app store overnight on the launch day & buy now there are more than 10,000 apps in Windows 8 app store.
  • Windows RT is the first OS to be compatible with PC's running ARM chips & will work with 420m computers.
  • Windows 8 ultrabook computers run at least 33% faster than Windows 7.
  • The in-depth design testing of Windows 8 was done by a team of 16 people of Europe's largest experience design specialist firm, Foolproof.
  • Microsoft Windows 8 devices includes convertible PCs that double as both a tablet computer and an ultrabook.
  • Xbox music that come with Windows 8 has 30 million songs that can be streamed online.
  • Analysts have predicted 400m new PC sales for next year, most of which will run Windows 8.
  • Windows 8 is the first ever version of Windows especially designed & optimized for touchscreen devices, Windows 7 and its predecessors were not made for touchscreens.
  • Microsoft sold four million upgrade copies of Windows 8 over the first weekend of sales.
  • Microsoft released Windows 8 in 109 languages, including 14 new display languages which has a potential reach of over 4.5 billion people.
  • Microsoft unveiled the new Windows 8 features and improvements more than one year before tha launch on September 13, 2011.
  • According to Microsoft, there were about 535,000 downloads of the Windows 8 developer preview within the first 12 hours of its release.
  • For the first time since Windows 95, the Windows Start button is no longer present on the taskbar.
  • Windows 8 Consumer Preview had been downloaded over one million times.
  • Advertising budget for the Microsoft Windows 8 is US $1.5–1.8 billion, making it the industry's biggest product launch in history.
  • Its been just one month and Microsoft had already released Windows 8's first security patches on 13th Nov, 12.
  • Microsoft used eye tracking/behaviour, Individual fixations, or recordings of a stabilized retina while typing to build Windows 8 touch keyboard.
Two more things I noticed during the Windows 8 launch event are:
  • Microsoft said at the event that Windows 7 has been installed 670m times, its huge.
  • A research firm Gartner said that by the end of 2012 there will be 1.5bn Windows devices, and 608m on Android, still way behind.
